Reasons to support our mission to end health disparities
Everyone should have the same opportunities for good health. Too many people go without health care, receive inadequate care, or get the care they need too late. From chronic disease care to drug pricing, our experts are advancing research to influence policy. The goal: to make the nation’s health system more accessible and affordable.
We also discover why people are at different risks for disease. Some are more likely to develop diseases like cancer or Alzheimer’s because of their ethnicity, neighborhood, or sex, and our longstanding research efforts are uncovering why. We work as partners within communities to develop solutions to the most pressing health challenges of our time. Your support will help them reach more of our nation’s most vulnerable.
Partners in Community Health: Planning for a New USC Pharmacy in South Los Angeles
Soon after Vassilios Papadopoulos became dean of the USC Mann School of Pharmacy in October 2016, he approached Raffi Svadjian, executive director of community pharmacies, with a bold idea. What about launching a new pharmacy in South Los Angeles, an underserved area for pharmaceutical care?
Providing care on the streets
The daily struggle to survive on the streets takes a toll on the health of people experiencing homelessness. The Keck School of Medicine of USC’s Street Medicine team meets them where they live — under bridges, along riverbeds, and behind dumpsters. These professionals deliver quality care, but your support can help them do much more, particularly at a time when homelessness is reaching epidemic proportions in Los Angeles County.
“As the urban university of tomorrow, we’re committed to ending health disparities.”

Illuminating inequities in health care
Our experts collaborate to reveal the role that race, ethnicity, sex, wealth, and education play in health and access to health care. People of color are disproportionately disadvantaged, whether they’re shopping for healthful food, receiving a cancer diagnosis, or trying to pick up a prescription close to home. We can make health care more equitable through community engagement, education, and research, with your support.
A livable environment for everyone
We want to narrow the climate gap — the unequal impact of our warming planet on people of color and those with lower incomes. In Los Angeles, our USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences partners with nonprofits and community groups to grow the urban forest. Other USC scholars and scientists are working on ways to counter the health impacts of our warming city centers. With your help, they can create a sustainable future by advancing smart buildings, improving air quality, and more.
Creating more resilient health care systems
Our experts are committed to improving the nation’s health care system. Their research provides policy-makers with evidence to spend health care dollars efficiently and make health care more sustainable, accessible, and equitable. Your support to the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics advances our quest for greater access to high-quality care.
Supporting the well-being of our caregivers
When our USC health care professionals feel their best, they can better care for others. Keck Medicine of USC’s Care for the Caregiver program eases stress among our own health workers. With your help, we can expand mental health services to raise the standard nationwide for caring for care providers.
